Freya Olafson's Avatar

We had Freya Olafson, a local contemporary dancer and new media artist, come to the art barn and perform her new piece 'Avatar' for a free show the other night and it was unbelievable! Freya's performance focuses on a genderless blogger persona whose identity seems to completely transform in front of a webcam and throughout the performance. Freya explains that, "through AVATAR I am facilitating an inquiry into our desire to share and publicize our lives". Freya's character embodies the idea, "I post therefore I am" which is something I think we can all relate to. There wasn't a person in the room who wasn't in awe after the performance. Freya is performing again at Ace Art this May and I plan on getting tickets to see it again!
